Organized in 1913, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Philip met during its early years in a building on McKinley Avenue (Magenta) near Euclid Avenue. In 1921, the congregation relocated to its present site on Forbell Street near McKinley Avenue. The neo-Gothic building was designed by Cherry & Matz of New York City.

In 2015, the congregation sold its building to the Pentecostal Christian Church John 3:16.

This three-rank unit organ, built by M.P. Möller in 1939, was known as an "Artiste" model. All of the pipes were enclosed in one plain case, and there was a detached two-manual stop-key console. The total cost of this organ was $1,675.
