Organist, lecturer, and recording artist Colin Andrews will present a recital as part of the Sunday Recital Series at Saint Thomas Church on Sunday, March 23rd at 5:15 PM. The next day, Mr. Andrews will offer a presentation tracing the history and development of the British organ music, citing European and domestic influences and discussing major composers such as Stanford, Parry, Elgar, Vaughan-Williams, Howells, Britten, Mathias, and Leighton. The workshop also will consider registration and interpretation.
Colin Andrews was born in Bristol, England. He studied at The Royal Academy of Music in London and at The Conservatoire de Muisque in Geneva, Switzerland. His principal Professors were Lionel Rogg and Dame Gillian Weir. Mr. Andrews was a prizewinner at both the 1980 and 1982 Dublin International Organ Competitions in Ireland. In 1993, the Royal Academy of Music in London bestowed an Associateship upon him in recognition of his distinguished performing career. Mr. Andrews has been a faculty member of both East Carolina University and Indiana University and has given lectures and masterclasses worldwide. Mr. Andrews has recorded 14 CDs for the Naxos, Gothic, Loft, Priory, and Zig Zag labels and has also recorded more than 30 programs for the BBC in England. Andrews is one of only five organists in the world to have recorded the complete organ works of Olivier Messiaen.
