Church of Our Lady of Peace
(Roman Catholic)
522 Carroll Street
Brooklyn, N.Y. 11215
The parish of Our Lady of Peace was founded in 1899 by the Italian Vincentian Fathers, with Father Assunto Faitcher, C.M., serving as the first pastor. A plot of land on Carroll Street was purchased upon which were built the Mission House of the Fathers and the church. Completed in 1904, the Romanesque-style church provided seating for 1200. The Lazarists left the parish in December 1906, after which the Franciscans assumed administration. A parish school with eight classrooms was built in 1909, and the church buildings were consecrated on May 1, 1910. |
