The parish of Our Lady of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was organized on April 7, 1887 by the Rev. Hugh Hand. Thirty persons attended the first Mass that was held in Luhr's Hall. Father Hand soon procured a plot on the south side of St. Mark's Avenue and upon it erected a church building. This church was enlarged in 1896. Father Hand also built a brick rectory adjoining the church. In May 1910, the church burned and by July of that year construction had begun on the present structure. The cornerstone for the Byzantine-style church was laid on November 20, 1910, and the completed building was dedicated on October 8, 1911. When originally opened, the church provided seating for 650 persons.

In 2010, the Brooklyn Diocese merged Our Lady of Loreto Church into the parish, forming Our Lady of the Presentation / Loreto Church. In 2011, Our Lady of Mercy Church was merged into the parish.
