The 2,276-seat Walker Theatre, named for then-New York City mayor, Jimmy Walker, opened in 1927. Initially, the bill was movies stage shows, but live shows were dropped when sound films shortly came in. The Walker was later converted into quad theatres, but finally closed in March, 1988.
