The Evangelical Church of God, located in the Morrisania section of The Bronx, began in 1943 as a mission established by Rev. Irons, with his wife Lena, and two others. Services were held in a hall at 167 Boston Road. In 1948, the church bought a building at 1216 Washington Avenue. During that time the society was incorporated and added the prefix “Evangelical” to the original name, Church of God.
In 1967 the congregation purchased the present building, the former Morrisania Presbyterian Church that was built c.1869.
