Loew's Burnside Theatre

57 East Burnside Avenue at Walton Avenue
The Bronx, N.Y. 10453

The 2178-seat Loew's Burnside Theatre opened on January 31st, 1924, and was the 40th Loew's theatre in the Greater New York area and the circuit's 100th throughout the USA. Opening night festivities were attended by Marcus Loew himself, and many celebrities of the era, including Eddie Cantor, plus a contingent of showgirls from the Ziegfeld Follies. The movie shown was "Thy Name Is Woman," directed by Fred Niblo, who was in the audience and stepped on stage at the end to thunderous applause.

The Loew's Burnside closed and the building is now used for retail business.

M. P. Möller, Inc.
Hagerstown, Md. – Opus 3773 (1923)
Electro-pneumatic action
3 manuals, 150 registers, 93 stops, 28 ranks

In the factory contract dated July 27, 1923, the M.P. Möller company states that the organ for the Loew's Burnside Theatre would cost $17,500 and that it would be completed by December 1, 1923. Möller provided a three-manual mahagony that had colored stop keys. Wind pressures for the organ were 7" and 12". Möller includes the following notation:

Organ to be constructed so that all string stops are playable on orchestral manual. Two stop keys cancel all other stops from Orchestral department and all strings from Great and Solo and draw all strings on Orchestral. The purpose is that a Solo on any stop (string excepted) can be played on either great or solo manual, and accompanied by all strings in chorus on orchestral manual.
