The congregation of Advent Lutheran Church was established in 1897. Between 1900-01, the present building was constructed, as designed by William A. Potter in a German Gothic style. The church's stained glass, lighting fixtures, pews, and ceramic mosaic reredos were fabricated by the studio of Louis Comfort Tiffany, who also decorated the front pipes of the Odell organ.

From 2000-2016, Advent Lutheran shared ts facilities with Broadway United Church of Christ which had been without a permanent church building since their Broadway Tabernacle was sold and razed in 1969.

In 1962, J.H. & C.S. Odell rebuilt their 1901 organ, eliminating all tubular action in the wind chests and the console key and coupler action, and replacing it with their modern all-electric action. The Odell Factory Specification (June 15, 1962) states that "The agreement does not provide for any general repair work for the wind chests, or changes in the stonal structure or character of the organ. These sections of the organ are in good operating condition at the present time." Odell indicated that the organ would be completed shortly after the new year, and before Easter 1963. The cost of this rebuilding was $5,950.

After serving the church well for nearly a century, water damage rendered the organ unplayable. In 2000, the organ was removed to faciliate repairs of the organ chamber roof. The church was unable to fund the restoration of the Odell, so the organ was purchased by Meloni & Farrier Organbuilders and is currently in storage. All that remain today are the facade pipes.

New York City – Opus 377 (1901)
Tubular-pneumatic action
2 manuals, 29 stops, 31 ranks

The original organ in Advent Lutheran Church was built by J.H. & C.S. Odell of New York City. All pipes were located in a chancel chamber, with the console situated at the head of the side aisle. The organ had vacuum-exhaust tubular-pneumatic action and was voiced on 4" wind pressure. The Odell Specification (dated Dec. [illegible], 1900) states that the organ would cost $6,975, including repair and tuning for one year. Odell also agreed to do mason work required by alterations, at a cost not to exceed $225; to furnish the wood caring on or about the organ as directed by the architect, at a cost not to exceed $200; to furnish, at a cost not to exceed $300, the decorations supplied by Tiffany & Company; and to set up and attach a first class electric motor for the organ, at a cost of $385. The organ was to be entirely completed and ready for use for the morning services on the first Sunday in May, 1901.
