Good Samaritan Lutheran Church

Roosevelt Island
New York, N.Y. 10044

Good Samaritan Lutheran Church was established in 1917 to serve the large number of German immigrants living on Blackwell's Island. By the 1950s, most of the island's institutions had closed or relocated, and churches lost their congregations. Good Samaritan Lutheran was abandoned and ultimately demolished.

Originally named Blackwell's Island, the name was changed to Welfare Island in 1921, and was renamed Roosevelt Island in 1973.
