The Grand Theatre was built in 1904 by Jacob Pavlovitch Adler, the famed Russian-born Jewish actor and a star in Yiddish theater. The Grand was the first purpose-built Yiddish theater in New York. Nearly all Adler's family went into theater; probably the most famous was his daughter, Stella, who taught method acting to, among others, Marlon Brando.
