Aeolian Company
New York City – Opus 1018 (1906, 1910)
Electro-pneumatic action
2 manuals, 18 stops, 18 ranks

The organ in the Chapin's New York City residence was built in 1906 by the Aeolian Company. As originally designed, this organ had 15 stops and could be played manually or by an Aeolian roll-player mechanism built into the detached two-manual console. Aeolian installed the organ in two sections, each about 4½ ft. deep by 8 ft. long and fronted with casework of whitewood, in a room off the hall on the main floor. As written in the Aeolian Contract (Apr. 5, 1906), the organ would be set up and ready for use during the month of October 1906, for a consideration of $8,500, "payable in cash on completion of the organ in position." The contract further stated, "In case of delay in preparing room for the proper installation of organ beyond the time above stipulated, the organ to be cared for at purchaser's risk and expense." In Rollin Smith's book, The Aeolian Pipe Organ and its Music, the entry for Opus 1018 notes the organ was shipped Oct. 11, 1908, more than two years after the contract was signed.

In 1910, three unknown stops were added to the organ, making a total of 18 stops. Smith's book notes that the organ included Chimes. Following is the original specification.
