The Second German Methodist Episcopal Church was established in 1846 as a mission of the First German Methodist Episcopal Church. From 1846-1858 the mission was located on West 43rd Street, near Tenth Avenue, in the Hell's Kitchen area. In 1858 a new church building was erected at 350 West 40th Street, just east of Ninth Avenue. The church disbanded sometime after 1940.

The organ in Second German Methodist was built in 1898 by Hinners & Albertsen of Pekin, Illinois, a partnership (from 1898-1902) of John L. Hinners and U. J. Albertsen. This firm was succeeded by the Hinners Organ Co. The ledger book shows that this organ was a "Regular Style No. 6" and cost $577.50. It was to be delivered about September 19th, 1898; a note indicates that the organ was shipped on September 14th.

The drawing at right is of "Design D for Styles Nos. 4, 5, 6 and 7." The caption states:

The wood work is built of the best quality quarter sawed oak, with fine hand rubbed cabinet finish, in the natural color of the wood. The display pipes (all speaking) are decorated in an artistic manner, in colors, gold and silver.

DIMENSIONS—12 feet 4 inches high in center, 7 feet 4 inches wide, and 5 feet 6 inches deep, (excepting Style No. 7 is to be 6 feet deep.)
