Organized in 1854 as the First German Baptist Church of Brooklyn, the early congregation was located on Majeur (now Remsen) Street at Graham Avenue. In 1865, the society moved to Montrose Avenue near Union Avenue. In 1915, the First German Baptist Church of Gowanus, founded in 1878, merged into the congregation, and in 1925 a new church was built at 64-13 Catalpa Avenue in Ridgewood, and the church was renamed Ridgewood Baptist Church. Ridgewood was a part of Brooklyn for many years, but is now in the Borough of Queens.
