There has been a St. George Episcopal parish in Astoria since 1825 when its site was donated by landowner Robert Blackwell. The original church was on Franklin Street, today’s Astoria Boulevard. After that edifice burned down in 1894, the present brick church at 27th Avenue and 14th Street was erected in 1903-1904. The Astoria Library stands on the site of the original church.

The organ in St. George's Church was built in 1953 by the Frazee Organ Company of South Natick, Mass. Frazee provided a two-manual stop-key console to control approximately eight unified ranks of pipes.
