A chapel was established on Webster Avenue where services were conducted by Father Louis Riccio, pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Father Carmelo Crisci was appointed the first pastor of the newly organized Assumption Parish in New Brighton. The cornerstone was laid in 1922 for the magnificent Italian Renaissance structure on the corner of Brighton and Webster Avenues. In 2007, the Archdiocese of New York merged the Assumption Church with the Chapel of Saint Paul located a short distance away.
