The Gabe Wiener Foundation is proud to continue its free lunchtime concert series PRISM CONCERTS: The Organ Series. The series, which plays on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 12:30 PM at Central Synagogue in New York City, is one for every music and art lover visiting or living in New York.

The concerts are performed on the Gabe M. Wiener Memorial Organ, an extraordinary instrument commissioned for Central Synagogue by Zena and Michael Wiener and Jenny Wiener Steingart in celebration of the life of Gabe M.Wiener.  The organ was constructed by the renowned firm of Casavant Frères of St. Hyacinthe, Canada, and built for the specific requirements of the congregation’s worship services and music program. The organ consists of two distinct, interconnected instruments: a Bimah Organ (Casavant Opus 3812) located on both sides of the bimah and used primarily during services to accompany the cantor, choir, and congregation; and a larger Gallery Organ (Casavant Opus 3813) located in the elevated rear gallery and used both for services and concerts. This singular organ contains an impressive 4,345 pipes, 55 stops, and 74 ranks.

The series is under the direction of Dr. Gail Archer, the esteemed director of the music programs at Barnard College, Columbia University, and the conductor of the Barnard-Columbia Chorus. The first concert of each month will spotlight organists from around the globe—talented individuals who have yet to be widely exposed to American audiences.  The latter concert of each month will feature students from the many acclaimed area universities—the undiscovered next generation of emerging organ and musical talents.
